Purpose
The main purpose of the Database Administration Specialist is to provide thought leadership, management and operational oversight of the MSSQL, Oracle and MySQL database environments, their associated operating systems, the management and application toolsets, and the support teams delivering the database service, including ensuring the strategy is aligned to Company Strategy, effective stakeholder engagement and full compliance with SLA100, PCI and POPI.

Responsibilities

Financial Management
Provide input into BU budget, demonstrate cost awareness and control and report on revenue, costs and volumes

Stakeholder Management
Manage and maintain good stakeholder relationships
Understand customer needs and supplier contribution and utilize to drive optimal operational results
Ensure team manages and delivers on  internal and external stakeholder requirements/SLA’s

Strategic Alignment
Ensure team goals are aligned to BU strategy, documented, clearly understood and regularly reviewed

Initiative/ Projects for continuous improvement
Identify and scope opportunities for improvement / innovation
Deploy client or company specific projects in line with company standards and in agreement with line manager

ICT System Administration and Maintenance
Ensure effective Database resources, servers, systems,  applications, hardware, software, Security utilization
Coordinates access control levels
Weekly and Monthly ICT reports
Develop maintenance/operational schedules and procedures for all database environment
Ensure maintenance schedules are executed according to approved operational procedures

ICT Administration
Maintains a complete and accurate library (properly indexed) of ICT system related documentation as required,
ICT procurement recommendations
Submit monthly invoicing to finance for processing
R&D new products and solutions

People Management
Assists with the development of the Department’s business and financial plan
Supports the department manager in new business development concepts,
Monitors processes, systems and schedules on behalf of department manager.
Manages and coordinates all aspects of project planning, budgeting, implementation, monitoring, reporting and evaluation
Identifies and manages risks related to working environment and project deliverables,
Manage employees as appropriate within the division to optimise business performance and the underwriting service to customers.
Conduct Performance Planning Sessions.
Track and monitor performance in accordance with policies and procedures and performance planning documentation.
Provides limited one-on-one coaching and mentoring to staff
Identifies and recommends training for ICT training needs

Compliance and Risk Management
Policies and procedures: Develop, amend and implement relevant policies and procedures
Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant policies & procedures, regulation and legislation
Risk: Ensure risks are reported on and mitigated

People Management
People Processes: Manage employees through the employee lifecycle including, recruit, manage performance and reward
People Development: Build a high performance team through regular individual and team engagement sessions. Identify talent, coach and develop to ensure talent retention

REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications/Knowledge (including most relevant field of study)
Extensive knowledge of Ms SQL Databases, architecture and concepts.
Extensive knowledge and experience with T-SQL / SQL, Windows Server, Ms SQL installation, upgrades and various replication methods, Microsoft Cloud, Always-ON technology imperative.
Microsoft Certification imperative
Oracle database experience
Knowledge of Oracle  Real Application
Clusters 11g,12c advantageous
Oracle Data Guard replication advantageous
Knowledge of Database security techniques
Good knowledge of database performance tuning. Experience (including relevant sector specific experience)
Minimum 5 years’ experience in IT Division or in a corporate IT Company
Minimum 5 years’ experience in Ms SQL Server database management in a large organisation. Knowledge of Oracle and MySQL database advantageous
Minimum 5 years actively supporting/maintain an enterprise database infrastructure, broad work experience including administration, in Enterprise
