Armscor have an opportunity for a Civil Engineer or Technologist on a three year fixed
term contract. Applications are invited from people meeting the qualifications and
experience requirements set out below; the position is based in Pretoria.
The incumbent will be responsible for planning and control of expenditure on construction
and other projects and for accounting accurately for that expenditure. The incumbent will be
involved from conception to final completion of projects as determined by Armscor as well as
leveraging of land assets.
 Establish client requirements and convert to specifications.
 Give advice regarding the technical, size and the standard of construction of a
structure, which can be erected for a given cost.
 Give advice on the economy of a project and provide inputs to the preparation of the
 Prepare tender documents which include the important bills of quantities and
arrangement of contract.
 Support the review team for the technical integrity, design scope and approach to
ensure viability of construction and property developments.
 Participate in all commercial, technical and contractual negotiations within the
mandate parameters specified by client.
 Co-operate with the architect, specialists, consulting engineers and other
professionals to ensure that the technical and financial provisions of the contract are
properly interpreted and applied in order that Armscor’s interests are protected and a
construction project can be erected with the approved budget.
 Ensure construction execution / property development within technical specifications,
budget, on time and at maximum operating efficiency.
 Monitor costs during construction to ensure that the costs are not exceeded without

managers, secure contractor relationships and that their performance, warrantee and
guarantee criteria are met.
 Ensure that the contractors’ site safety and quality procedures are in place and adhere to in
line with prescribed legislation and regulations.
 Attend regular meetings with clients, contractors and other specialists.
 Provide inputs to all relevant reports to EXCO, such as monthly progress reports,
financial reports and Risks Management reports. This includes data analysis, risks
and recommendations.
 Bachelor of Technology: Civil Engineering / Construction Management
 Project Management qualification
 BSc / M. Tech: Construction Management / Civil Engineering or Construction
Management will be an advantage.
 Must be registered as a professional with SAICE (South African Institute of Civil
Engineering) / SACPCMP (South African Council for The Project and Construction
Management Professions) or as required by the Built Environment professional body.
 Minimum of 8 years’ experience in the construction / property development
 Experience in managing large scale projects (Rm 100+) and a proven track record of
successful execution.
 Experience in Project Management, managing of relationships with clients,
contractors and service providers.
 Must have the ability to prepare cost and schedule estimates.
 Thorough understanding of the OHS Act and other site specific legal and statutory
