Position Description

The Risk Surveyor is tasked with assessing risk while applying technical knowledge. Surveyors conduct detailed risk assessments on the risk, as well as provide an in-depth view to underwriters assisting them to underwrite the risk appropriately.

Key Responsibilities

    Survey  small to large commercial and agricultural  risks
    Identify suitable risk management and improvement requirements
    Set MPL’s  on target risks (including full Business Interruption assessments)
    Communicate complex risk issues with the insured’s own risk managers and senior survey staff of the broker
    Where required, to travel nationally (as well as to other territories within Africa) to conduct surveys of  small to large  commercial and agricultural risks
    Have extensive knowledge about fire hazards (inception hazards, fire spread, chemicals, combustibility of materials, electrical hazards, etc.)

Minimum Requirements

    Alternatively 4 -5 years’ risk management experience (Short- term insurance related) and/or 5+ years’ Commercial underwriting insurance experience
    Matric (essential)
    Valid drivers’ license
    Risk management qualification (advantageous)
    Occupational Health and Safety qualification/knowledge
    FPASA qualification
    Effective MS Office usability
    Technology awareness and capability
    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (English and Afrikaans)
    Analytical ability and solution orientated
    Good written and verbal competence
    Good persuasive and influencing skills
    Ability to achieve targets independently
    Positive contribution to teams goals and success
    Insurance risk management principles
    Short term insurance industry knowledge
