Job Purpose Group Five invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Safety Officer III for an Limited Duration Contract. To ensure compliance to safety and health legislative requirements as well as Group Five policies and procedures by implementing, enforcing, monitoring and auditing the physical and administrative aspects of site and subcontractors SHE system

Qualifications ND SHE Management or equivalent

Relevant SHE qualifications, certifications and accreditations (SAMTRAC, First aid, etc)

Experience At least 3 years construction experience

Duties & Responsibilities KPA 1 Site Legal Obligations

1.1 Appointments as per legal requirements, management through to Safety representatives.

1.2 Ensure medicals are done.

1.3 Ensure that personnel are trained in induction and their task.

1.4 Ensure that there are no breaches of the OHS Act.

1.5 Ensure that the site Safety plans are applied and abided by.

1.6 Ensure that any other legal legislation is complied to.

KPA 2 Administration of Safety, health and Environment

2.1 Ensure that filing system is kept as per our minimum Group Five standards.

2.2 Ensure that statistical data is communicated to SHE Manager.

2.3 Ensure that reporting to the client on site is accurate and correct.

2.4 Ensure that all equipment and tool registers are kept up to date and checked.

KPA 3 Meetings

3.1 Ensure that a committee has been established.

3.2 Ensure that regular committee meetings take place and are minuted.

3.3 Chair meetings if required.

3.4 Ensure that toolbox talks are done regularly.

3.5 Attend contractors meetings when required.

KPA 4 Accident investigations

4.1 Ensure that H/O is informed when any serious accident occurs.

4.2 Comply to Group Five safety manual and the section of incidents.

4.3 Ensure all investigations are timeously done.

4.4 All follow up items to be actioned.

4.5 Liaise closely with clients throughout the accident investigations.

KPA 5 Physical safety on site

5.1 Ensure that a ration of 80% on site and 20% doing administration is complied with.

5.2 Ensure that all supervisors and their teams comply with requirements as per good safety practices.

5.3 Ensure that all supervisors are issued with personal files so that supervisors can have all relevant legal

paperwork at hand (attendance registers, toolbox, risk assessments, planned job/task observation, safe

work procedures, warnings

5.4 Ensure that all areas are made safe where hazards exist.

5.5 Ensure that all areas are inspected on a daily basis.

5.6 Stop work in areas where he deems a potential hazard/accident exists with consultation with site manager.

5.7 Ensure that environment plan is abided by and that enough toilets, bins and drinking water are available.

5.8 Ensure that any breaches in safety and health are reported immediately.

5.9 Carry out self-audits on construction sites and feedback to Safety Manager/Site Manager.
