Position: Operator
Department: Disaster and Emergency Management

Salary: R252 552 - R346 476 per annum (plus benefits)

Minimum Requirements:

Grade 12 with ICT or CAT as core subjects
1 years' experience in a life threatening environment
Core Responsibilities:

Receive and handle incoming calls on the emergency switchboard and radio communication console to ensure that through the continuous staffing of the public safety answering point, all incoming emergency calls are promptly answered and receipted as per set performance standards and targets in order to activate timely appropriate emergency responses
Operate and utilize a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) System that incorporates voice, electronic and data means to ensure that through the appropriate and timeous dispatching of emergency resources to reported emergency incidents that loss of life and prevention of destruction of property by fire and related dangers are effectively and efficiently mitigated and contained
Use standard emergency communications operational procedures as it relates to verbal communication processes, communicate with Emergency Services and Disaster Management personnel and other response personnel and agencies to ensure that proper, concise and accurate radio procedures contribute to the effective transmission and receipt of emergency and non-emergency communications
Maintain accurate electronic logs of all emergency and non-emergency calls and Departmental fleet and personnel movement to ensure that all requests for emergency and non-emergency responses are appropriately and accurately recorded for legal purposes and performance management quality assurance purposes
Operate and monitor all non-verbal communications systems, including linked direct alarm systems and surveillance systems within the centre in a professional and efficient manner to ensure integrity, accuracy and timely and appropriate proactive emergency responses and emergency incident management to facilities connected or monitored through non-verbal communications devices and systems
Perform critical incident management operational level tasks to ensure that the implementation of the Incident Management System at operational task level contributes to successful and safe incident response and mitigation
