The Division for Student Development and Support (SDS) plays a leading role in creating a holistically focused, enabling environment and provides excellent opportunities for students to develop to their full potential as active scholars and responsive citizens in South Africa.
The Office for Student Development strives to build out and maintain vibrant student development programmes, responsive to student learning outcomes and meaningfully embedded with the University’s academic project.
The Goals of the Career Service are to:
Facilitate students’ preparation for the job search and their entry into the world of work, and thus their motivation to complete their studies
Facilitate interactive career networking opportunities for students and faculty with prospective employers
A 12-month Internship opportunity is currently being presented within the Office for Student Development for a Honours Industrial Psychology (preference is for Masters Industrial Psychology) student to be trained and/or to gain work experience.
Reporting to the Manager, the successful incumbent will assist the Coordinator with the career services activities; including inter alia:
Logistics for projects
Communication with students
Working on 'Career Xplora', the Career Service Management tool offered by Symplicity
Advising students about their job search
Current UWC Honours Industrial Psychology or M Com. Industrial Psychology student who has completed the course work in 2018 and will be busy with his/her mini-thesis in 2019
Strong interest in career services
Good oral and written communication skills
Excellent customer service orientation and interpersonal skills
Proficiency in ICT
Social media savvy
Ability to successfully multi-task and work in a team
Attention to detail, time management and organisational skills
